DEFT-at-HOME

Deft Learning Academy recognizes that busy schedules or commuting complications may make it difficult to get to the Academy.  DEFT-AT-HOME has been created to address these challenges.

DEFT-AT-HOME is a homework-only option, making it possible to participate in the digital assignment component of the program without attending the Academy.

DEFT-AT-HOME students need to attend the Academy for the diagnostic test. Following that, a personalized academic study plan is created. The Academy Director establishes weekly assignments for the student to complete, monitors results, and makes adjustments as necessary

DEFT-AT-HOME
Students registering in DEFT-AT-HOME
programs for Math and/or English Language Arts do not work at the Academy. They complete digital homework assignments exclusively.

This option does not include time with the Academy Director – in person or virtually. For an additional fee, a DEFT-AT-HOME student may book an In-Academy session. 48 hours notice of a request to attend is required.

Rates for testing and monthly tuition are available upon request.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
DEFT-AT-HOME students must have a tablet (Apple IOS or Android) or computer to work on and access to the Internet.  A permanent connection to the internet is not required to enable completion of digital assignments. In other words, homework can be downloaded and cached, and subsequently uploaded after the assignments are done. This means that the student may complete their homework anywhere, at any time.

DEFT-IN-ACADEMY

DEFT-IN-ACADEMY means just that. Students attend the Academy and work at a station with a Teaching Assistant and one or two other students. Students and their parents decide if they will attend once or twice a week.  Academy session times are scheduled, and last 40 to 45 minutes. Assignments at the Academy are workbook-based, grade relevant, and completed under the supervision of an educator. DEFT-IN-ACADEMY students have the option of adding daily homework to their program. Homework is comprised of digital assignments (completed on personal tablets or computers) and optional worksheets that are scheduled by the Academy Director, in order to promote continued student progress.

DEFT-IN-ACADEMY programs are offered for Math and English Language Arts.

Prior to registering in the Math and/or English language Arts program, every student is tested to determine his or her optimal starting point. We generally recommend focusing on one subject at a time, but will accommodate dual subject students by parent request.

The Math program addresses all strands a Canadian student will see in school and includes Singapore Math content. The English Language Arts program covers primary elements of phonics (for early readers), grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and reading comprehension.

DEFT-IN-ACADEMY
Standard Program

Students registering in DEFT-IN-ACADEMY Standard programs for Math and/or English Language Arts will work at the Academy exclusively. They will not be assigned homework. They have the option to attend the Academy once or twice a week.

DEFT-IN-ACADEMY+
Premium Program

Students registering in the DEFT-IN-ACADEMY+ Premium programs for Math and/or English Language Arts will work at the Academy and they will have digital and optional written homework assignments. They have the option to attend the Academy once or twice a week.

Tuition rates vary based on the number of times a student attends the Academy, the number of programs they enrol in, and whether or not he or she selects the homework option.

Rates for testing, materials fee, and monthly tuition are available upon request.

TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS
DEFT-IN-ACADEMY and DEFT-IN-ACADEMY+ students who choose to add the homework option must have a computer and access to the Internet.
A tablet (Apple IOS or Android) may also be used to facilitate assignment completion. A permanent connection to the internet is not required to enable completion of digital assignments. In other words, homework may be downloaded and cached, and subsequently uploaded after the assignments are completed. This means that the student may complete assigned homework anywhere, at any time.
